Introduction
LabLynx enables you to add and edit chain of custody (COC) information. You can also:
- export information to Excel
- update collection information
- edit samples
- reprint labels
- mark COCs as received
System administrators use LabLynx ELab to manage COC information, including:
- chain of custody details
- samples
Adding or editing COC information
The Chain of Custody List screen displays chain of custody information currently defined in the system. To find a specific COC number, enter the number in the COC field and click the button with the green check mark:
1. From the Chain of Custody List, select a COC number or click New:
2. From this screen, complete the fields. The various fields are explained below:
Field | Description |
---|---|
Description | Type a description of the COC. |
Receive | Select the check box to mark the COC as received. |
Comments | Add any applicable comments about the COC. |
3. When you are finished, click Save and then Done.
Exporting information to Excel
To export information to Excel, click on the COC or WWTPCOC (Waste Water Treatment Plant Chain of Command) buttons labeled with an Excel icon.
Updating collection information
Click the Update Collection Info button. The system will display the Add/Edit Update COC Samples screen:
Complete the fields in the Add/Edit Update COC Samples Web page dialog. Fields in bold are required. The various fields are explained below:
Field | Description |

Collected By | Click to select a name from the Collected By list. |
Sample Collection Date | Click the calendar icon to select a date, and then enter a time in minutes and seconds. |
Sample Collection End Date | Click the calendar icon to select a date, and then enter a time in minutes and seconds. |
Reprinting labels
Click the Reprint Labels button to select a job name to be printed in the Add/Edit Add Job to Queue Web page dialog.
Editing sample information
In the Samples area, select a sample number or click New. Refer to the sample receiving article for more information.
Marking COCs as received
From the Chain of Custody List, select the row for the COC you want to mark as received (do not click on the hyperlink). The row will be highlighted in blue:
With the row highlighted, click the Receive button, which will have changed from gray to maroon to indicate that a selection has been made. When the screen refreshes, the selection row will have been removed from the list.
